Location: Multiple locations
PASSENGER LOADING AREA
Getting out of the shuttle, Sam entered the main passenger passageway, where standing behind a podium that had a card reader, and the sign ‘Welcome to the USS Kingdom.” Standing next to the podium was a straight laced Ensign whom she figured was now doing this for the first time. As the OOD (Officer of the Deck), it was his duty to welcome in new crewmen to the ship, and while the ship was underway, he would be the first one to expect trouble.
Going up to the Ensign, Sam snapped a salute and said “SIR, LT(JG) Pensria Shinawatra requests permission to board”. Within seconds the stiff laced Ensign said ‘Lieutenant, Permission Granted welcome aboard, ma’am”.
Taking her ID card from her hands, the Ensign placed the ID card into the ships reader, and within seconds looking at his viewer he saw that Sam was now stamped as coming aboard at 1835 hrs, and was the ships new CMO. Then taking her plastic data cards he placed this into another card reader, where the information was downloaded into the ships Computer memory.
The insertion of her cards did several thing at the same time. First her Military and Civilian education and military service was downloaded, her ranks, time in grade were now being sent to Personnel along with her military personal files. Next her medical files were also sent to Sickbay where it would be catalog, and any important medical issues would be flagged for the CMO, which was her.
PASSAGEWAY USS KINGDOM
After the signing in Sam took back her ID card and data cards. Sam asked where the Captains office was, and after directing Sam to his office, she decided to take the long way to the Captains office. During her travels Sam easily wandered around the ship until one of the Security officers asked her what she was doing.
Sam said “well if you don’ Petty Office; I’m brand new here; just recently signed in with the OOD, so I thought I’d go and see how everyone is interacting with each other”.
“INTERACTING WITH EACH OTHER?” “Are you trying to be funny Lieutenant?” That was one for the books.
For PO2 Peabody who sometimes crossed the line between good common sense, and the power of being in Security. According to PO2 Peabody, NO one every interacted with each other, now not too sure of whether this Lieutenant was pulling his leg, PO2 Peabody who was also known as “as a hard ass, by the book Peabody” was now telling Sam that she better accompany him to security, there he’d make sure he got her to tell him the truth.
For Sam, who was interested in the Petty Officers actions, and the flaunting of his authority, and trying to impress her with his being in charge attitude. Sam now smiling but already making a mental note of the Petty Officers over handed way of doing things; she bgan to make a general assumption on his mental stability. Sam determined that he had this overwhelming urge to show who was in charge.
SECURITY DEPARTMENT - INTERVIEW ROOM 1
She determined that he had this so-called power issue, and seeing that he wasn’t too unstable, she went with the Petty Officer to Security, where she was led to an interview room.
Stepping inside interview room, Sam saw it was set up with a regulation desk; two chairs, and the one way transparent aluminum walls which had nothing in front of it.
Sitting there for a few minutes, PO2 Peabody returned with his watch commander a senior chief petty officer, who she deduced was the on-duty chief for the Alpha Watch. Now sitting there watching the two, she watched with fascination as PO2 Peabody began to explain how he had taken the Lieutenant in for questioning, because she looked lost, and gave him some cockamamie story about “interacting with each other”.
To Petty Officer Peabody; this was a sure sign of someone who must seem delusional, so once he brought her to security and talked to his chief, he’d take her to sickbay to have a Psychological Profile, and maybe have her committed as soon as the Chief of her section came down to claim her.
Sighing, Senior Chief Petty Officer (E8) Richard Gomez asked “PO2 Peabody, did you ask the Lieutenant for her ID Card, and check to see whether the Lieutenant is on the new incoming personnel roster?
NO, “I didn’t’ replied the Ensign, but then she could be lying about who she is, and I didn’t want to take a chance with having a major argument in the passageway. Chief Gomez said “Petty Officer Peabody”, why don’t you do that right now, before I do anything else; and you better be right on this one!”
Scanning the ID Card, PO2 Peabody’s face suddenly drained of color, and now sitting down on the chair with both Sam and Chief Gomez looking on, PO2 Peabody said ‘Chief, the Tricorder says Lieutenant Shinawatara just signed on board a few hours ago, and that she is the ships new..”Chief Medical Officer”
Suddenly Chief Gomez about fainted when he found that Sam was their new CMO, and now becoming unglued, at Peabody’s so-called criminal, Sam who was now watching with interests, and not saying much; Chief Gomez said
“PEABODY”, OF ALL THE FUCKED UP BONE HEADED STUNTS TO PULL, YOU HAD TO DO IT TO THE SHIPS NEW “CHIEF MEDICAL OFFICER”, WHO IS PROBABLY GOING TO HAVE YOU REPORT FOR A PSYCHOLOGICAL FITNESS TEST!!!”
Do you know what that means “PEABODY!” Whatever she finds in her PFT will reflect on your ability to work in any security field within Starfleet, and she can easily rip you a new ass-hole. That means no more finding excuses to hide out from the PFT, no more excuses from you on every known medical problem, and this also means that if she finds that you’re unstable, you can kiss your Starfleet days goodby!
Laughing Sam said, “That’s okay Chief; you’re right on both counts; but I won’t press charges. I will however require a Psychological Fitness Report on PO2 Peabody, which the results will go to the Captain for her input, and to your boss; I believe, is Lt. Mahealani.
“When was the last time PO2 Peabody had his mandated Psychological Profile completed? “Well ma’am, he hasn’t had one since he came on board a year ago. We’ve been too busy, and when it was time for him to appear for his PFT, he always had a reason for not going, and with the transfer of he last CMO, all of this was relegated to the back burner, and we sort of forgot.
You folks “FORGOT!”, replied Sam who was now a bit irritated, that a person allowed to safeguard the lives of the crew, and make sure the ship was safe was now entrusted to a Security Officer who had not had the mandated Psychological Fitness Test.
Chief in case you don’t remember, “Starfleet Medical requires all Security Personnel to undergo a complete Physical Evaluation, and a Psychological Profile done at the same time”, and now as the CMO of the Freedom, I am going to start the entire Security Divisions Medical and Psychological profiles ASAP.
Now ashen gray, PO2 Peabody now heard his death sentence as he now had no more excuse to prevent him from having his medical and psychological examination. Now trying to apologize to her, Sam did not acknowledge him, and now smiling, Sam turned to PO2 Peabody who now realized he had just bitten off more than he could chew, began to turn red, and was now sweating profusely, as both officers now turned their attention to him.
Suddenly PO2 Peabody said, “I have rights”… Looking at Sam, Chief Gomes said Peabody ‘YOUAIN’T GOT RIGHTS”, THE ONLY RIGHTS YOU HAVE IS THAT YOU GET TO BREATH, SLEEP IN A NICE WARM RACK, EAT, TAKE A DUMP, AND SCREW, OTHER THAN THAT YOU HAVE NO RIGHTS IS THAT CLEAR?” Yes Chief wailed PO2 Peabody.
With PO2 Peabody now crying, Sam got out of her chair, straightened out her uniform and said Chief ‘I have an in processing meeting with the Captain, so I shall leave you with the Petty Officer, and then she said Petty Officer, I’ll see you this Friday at 1400 hrs, be prepared to be in sickbay for at least 6 hours.
After leaving Security with one pissed off Chief of the watch; and one Petty officer who was going to have his entire life brought to the surface for her to look at, Sam walked down several passageways, and finally found the Captains Yeoman.
Going inside the outer office; Sam said “Good afternoon Petty officer; LT(Jg) Pensari Shinawatara, the Freedoms new CMO reporting to the Captain”.
Good after noon replied the Yeoman, if you will please have a seat, I’ll buzz the Captain who already has your data on her PADD.
Pressing a button on her PADD, she saw that Sam had already signed into the ship, and her military files were now in the Captains desk top PADD.
Pressing a buzzer, the Yeoman said “Captain, our new CMO is here, and wished to talk to you”.
